Specialist Disability Accommodation is distinct from Supported Independent Living. It aids in giving participants greater freedom and control. The assisted independent living service includes aid with food preparation and cleaning, help with personal care duties, support at doctor’s appointments, and other responsibilities.
However, help for a supported independent living does not include assistance with food, consumables, transportation, internet access, or community involvement. In a SIL service, the support worker or assistant either remains with the individual or is located in a building close by with easy access and tends to them as needed. In this manner, the participant is not wholly dependent on another person.
